Daily Photo: Fireworks at Live OFF the Levee

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 12, 2008

After the concert last night, there was a magnificent fireworks display right across the street. It looked apocalyptic at times. D.J. was snapping away and from the look of some of these photos, he is getting used to using the new camera.

Daily Photo: Live OFF the Levy

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 12, 2008

We went to the free concert a couple blocks away from our place last night. It used to be called Live On The Levee, and was down by the Gateway Arch, but this year due to the flooding of the Mississippi, the concert was moved to around Soldier’s Memorial. The bands were Umphrey’s McGee and Sound Tribe Sector 9, and it all had a very hippie feel.

The last picture is of D.J.’s old friend Darla, who pleasantly surprised us by stopping by with her husband and 4 year old son right before we went to meet up with other friends at the concert. It is our friend Tim’s Hula Hoop; he is in the left of the photo.

Daily Photo: Riverfront Open

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 11, 2008

Earlier today during a short lunch break from the hours of recording and editing this week’s episode, we walked down to the riverfront and it was nice to see that Leonor K Sullivan Blvd is now completely open to car traffic. They are even doing bike and buggy rentals down there again, and are starting up the river cruises this weekend. I love the shadow of the Gateway Arch in these photos.

Daily Photo: Botanical Garden Concert

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 10, 2008

Every Wednesday night during the summer, the amazing Missouri Botanical Garden hosts a free concert that draws hoards. It is called the Whitaker Music Festival, and last night, the concert featured Javier Mendoza. This was the first one we have been able to get to, and on our way out, we took some pictures of the Lily Pond with the Dale Chihuly floating glass sculptures. The Climatron geodesic dome is in the background of one of the photos.

Daily Photo: Mississippi Falling (Flood Clean-Up)

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 8, 2008

The cleanup after the flood is happening at a steady pace. Leonor K Sullivan Blvd is not only visible again, but will soon be ready to drive on I think. This is a far cry from the pictures we took when the flood was highest.

Daily Photo: St. Louis Public Library Concert

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 7, 2008

Today after the Young Literati meeting (the young friends group of the library) we saw this great bluegrass group outside at the St Louis Public Library’s Central Branch. The group is called “Folk’n Bluesgrass,” and they know how to have fun.

The Library’s concert series, called the “NOT SO QUIET! Concert Series,” is the first Monday of every month, and it is free.

Daily Photo: Tripod Pics of Fireworks on July 5th

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 6, 2008

St. Louis has fireworks all weekend of July Fourth, and last night we used a tripod for the first time to take some longer exposure shots, setting up behind the Old Courthouse in Keiner Plaza whereas on July Fourth we were in front of it. We are still learning how to best use the camera (more camera than we have ever had but we will grow into it). Here are some of our favorite shots.

Daily Photo: July 4th Fireworks

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 5, 2008

We got to try out D.J.’s birthday present last night during fireworks. First we went to Fair St. Louis, which is one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in the United States. Then we parked our butts on the grass along with zillions of others to enjoy the fanfare explosions. Here are a few of my favorite shots from last night (I can’t remember whether D.J. or I took them) but I especially like the one of the boy silhouetted and cheering during the finale. For tonight’s fireworks we are going to use a tripod, which we still have to run and buy.

Daily Photo: July 4th Kazoo Festival

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 4, 2008

After a bit too much partying last night at the Dueling Piano Bar and then Jack Patrick’s afterward, it was all I could do to roll out of bed and get to the Kazoo festival. The goal was 5,000 kazooers to break a world-record, but I don’t think they made it. It was held at the lot by the Feisty Bulldog, one of our favorite Laclede’s Landing watering holes which we go to often.

There was also a concert for the kazooers but I didn’t stay for it due to aforementioned hangover. I don’t know how D.J. does it because he was up early this morning for interviews for this week’s Point of Inquiry.

Daily Photo: Duelling Piano Bar

Posted by seeninstl on Jul 3, 2008

Last night we went to a duelling piano bar called The Big Bang in Laclede’s Landing with one of D.J.’s old friends. What a fun place! Not to mention, our friend getting accosted by an overly-affectionate drunk bachelorette was a beautiful sight. (We also did quite some drinking ourselves.) These are pictures of the performance artists that D.J. took on his iPhone. (They are Cam Brown and Steve Luhmann, and they know how to work a crowd!)
